Over the past five weeks, children had the opportunity to participate in Artasia: Arts For All with artist Simon Frank. Each session encouraged children to explore creativity, self-expression, colour, nature, and the world around them through hands-on art experiences. Specially for Niwasa, Simon created five different plans connected to the land and his practice. Painting on birch wood, painting with clay, painting Black Eyed Susans with the flowers, printmaking, and texture rubbing from outdoor forms.

Simon created a welcoming environment where children were encouraged to share their ideas, ask questions, make choices, and explore art in their own unique ways. The children reflected on topics such as the important role of trees, their favourite colours, and how colours and nature can inspire artistic expression. Throughout the program, children experimented with different materials and techniques while developing confidence in sharing their thoughts and creative ideas. Their conversations, observations, and artwork demonstrated curiosity, imagination, and a growing appreciation for the creative process. Our experience with Simon allowed children to see that art is not simply about creating a finished product; it is about exploring, wondering, expressing, and discovering. The program provided meaningful opportunities for children to connect with one another, engage with their environment, and express themselves through art.
