Week 1 focused on touch through the way of texture. We explored this through stamp making in zine books. This exercise revealed to me how creatively the children interacted with their surroundings. As they explored, many began looking beyond the materials provided and experimented with the bottoms of their shoes, their personal belongings, and other familiar objects around them. It was interesting to see how quickly they began finding their own possibilities for stamp making.
The resourceful nature of the children’s thinking helped guide the art exercise in unexpected directions. They brought their own ideas into the process and showed how everyday objects can become tools for creative exploration when looked at in a new way.

Week 2 was all about analyzing the world around us through the way of smell. When asked about what they smelled, the children all gravitated toward the ongoing forest fires in the area, saying that the main thing they could smell was smoke. This led to a conversation about the environment, climate change and how they as a community and a generation can work toward bettering the world around them and conserving the ecosystem for future people.

This group was very high energy and particularly skilled at integrating their interests into the art exercises, making for highly personalized results in their artwork. Who they are and what they love oozes from every piece of art they produced.

Why We Document

Pedagogical Documentation breathes life into Artasia, turning fleeting moments into lasting stories of creativity, resilience, and connection. It’s more than a record—it’s a celebration of the sparks of imagination that light up each child’s eyes, the bravery of parents stepping into new experiences, and the beauty of communities coming together through art. By capturing these moments, we not only honour the voices, dreams, and discoveries of our participants but also weave a narrative that inspires others. Documentation allows us to reflect on the magic we’ve created together, fuels our passion for what’s possible, and ensures that every joyful collaboration, every burst of color, and every heartfelt expression is remembered and cherished. It keeps the spirit of Artasia alive, inspiring us to dream bigger, reach further, and continue making art together.
