My time with the children was greatly memorable. It gave me energy to see the children focused and engaged in the activities offered to them each week. This year, we were focused on the different senses and how we can use them in relation to our communities and environments.
When given materials during the first day of Artasia, a child decided to make a zine for his brother’s birthday gift. A heart shaped stamp didn’t go as planned, so he simply painted a heart with the ink instead. When letting go of expectations, he became more invested in completing it. This quick thinking led to his brother admiring the zine when he arrived. Their engagement increases when their intuition is encouraged rather than deterred. It was very sweet to see the consideration and love for his brother.

One day, a child around the age of 6 had the brilliantly creative idea of making popsicle stick keychains and a mini purse with paper after they created their scent jar drawing during an activity focused on the sense of smell. The creativity was truly inspirational and reminded me to think outside the box. I learned from them as much, if not more, than they did from me. This then led to me creating popsicle people using pipe cleaners and tape that made the children laugh. The children then made their own as well and their amusement was infectious. This joyful moment started from paying attention and verbally encouraging the unique creativity of a child and allowing it to be expanded.

I extend my gratitude to all the educators and staff members in the room who made me feel truly welcomed in their space. I greatly appreciate their support and contributions.

Why We Document

Pedagogical Documentation breathes life into Artasia, turning fleeting moments into lasting stories of creativity, resilience, and connection. It’s more than a record—it’s a celebration of the sparks of imagination that light up each child’s eyes, the bravery of parents stepping into new experiences, and the beauty of communities coming together through art. By capturing these moments, we not only honour the voices, dreams, and discoveries of our participants but also weave a narrative that inspires others. Documentation allows us to reflect on the magic we’ve created together, fuels our passion for what’s possible, and ensures that every joyful collaboration, every burst of color, and every heartfelt expression is remembered and cherished. It keeps the spirit of Artasia alive, inspiring us to dream bigger, reach further, and continue making art together.
