During the week 5 activity children were asked to draw on top of pictures from around their local neighbourhood. One child decided to draw on a picture of Ottawa street. They added a garden on top of an old movie theatre building, a ladder up to the garden, children playing on the street and a sunny sky.
The neighbourhood the child depicted is one that seems friendlier to children and adults alike. When talking with the child about their drawing they said that the garden would help people eat and the children were playing in the street because it was closed like some streets are for festivals like Ottawa St Fest and Art Crawl so the children could play without worry. They also said the sun was there because sunny weather is their favourite type of weather.

Why We Document
Pedagogical Documentation breathes life into Artasia, turning fleeting moments into lasting stories of creativity, resilience, and connection. It’s more than a record—it’s a celebration of the sparks of imagination that light up each child’s eyes, the bravery of parents stepping into new experiences, and the beauty of communities coming together through art. By capturing these moments, we not only honour the voices, dreams, and discoveries of our participants but also weave a narrative that inspires others. Documentation allows us to reflect on the magic we’ve created together, fuels our passion for what’s possible, and ensures that every joyful collaboration, every burst of color, and every heartfelt expression is remembered and cherished. It keeps the spirit of Artasia alive, inspiring us to dream bigger, reach further, and continue making art together.
