This was my biggest group of children each week, there was even a time when the kinders from across the hall had to evacuate due to plumbing issues and they joined in the activity too. Even though it’s a big group and this location does not have air conditioning, we still always have a good time here. The children are engaging and love to participate, even those that don’t seem interested in art joined in to try something new. There were times when I would walk up and the children were playing outside, they would greet me excitedly and ask about that week’s activity. For week 4 we just stayed outside to make and find sounds before going in and giving new art materials a try. We set up zones for each art material and the chalk pastels were a big hit, they even turned the table itself into an art work of its own.
To get them excited for the last day we all sat together and thought up our favourite thing to draw and their favourite thing in their room. They like drawing animals, sports logos, people or stick figures. Favourite things in their room include stuffed animals, anime posters and of course my bed. When it came time to imagine our space, “I want to draw a whole bunch of made up creatures.” That’s exactly what she did. On top of a picture of the outside of the school, she placed 8 unique creatures all over. A friend got inspired, after having such a hard time deciding what to do with her picture, she drew out an army of insects.
A lot of pools were imagined for the school yard, big pools with fun water slides. There was a treehouse party outside and a guy at the bottom waiting on an invitation. A colourful dance floor with a disco ball hanging in the middle. A whole roller coaster in the staircase picture inspired by wonderland. Someone drew the school into a big mansion with golden staircases and a fancy big doorframe.

Why We Document
Pedagogical Documentation breathes life into Artasia, turning fleeting moments into lasting stories of creativity, resilience, and connection. It’s more than a record—it’s a celebration of the sparks of imagination that light up each child’s eyes, the bravery of parents stepping into new experiences, and the beauty of communities coming together through art. By capturing these moments, we not only honour the voices, dreams, and discoveries of our participants but also weave a narrative that inspires others. Documentation allows us to reflect on the magic we’ve created together, fuels our passion for what’s possible, and ensures that every joyful collaboration, every burst of color, and every heartfelt expression is remembered and cherished. It keeps the spirit of Artasia alive, inspiring us to dream bigger, reach further, and continue making art together.
