Shared Learning
During my time at St. Timothy’s, I was lucky to witness the kids teach each other techniques they would create. During the bleeding tissue paper activity, I was able to see a student learn and figure out ways to apply the bleeding tissue paper all on their own. They would tell me every
time they learned a new technique and I would encourage him to tell his peers on how to use it as well. I also was able to see a student for the last week arrange the final piece with everyone’s piece of paper themselves. Throughout the five weeks, I was really able to witness the students learn from one another.
I believe it was important to see them share their learning with one another because I believe through that, they are expressing a language on its own. They are learning techniques and understanding them, and then sharing it with one another when they are confident. This provides community and the relationship between each student, which is really important to see in such young ages.
