Creating With Friends
When I introduced the activity for week 5, relationship, the children heard “group activity” and seemed uncomfortable or anxious. After I had encouraged the children they seemed willing to participate but were not expecting that they would have much fun. I put on some music and we began the marking making activity. For me it was an amazing experience to look at the once hesitant children and see the brightest smiles. They were laughing and dancing, everyone was participating.
This raised some questions for me, I was nervous to make the kids participate in something they “didn’t” want to participate in, but by having them join in the activity they had fun and had a creative outlet in a way they would’ve otherwise missed. It helped me understand the older school age groups and how they feel about the theme of relationships especially in regards to art. With a little bit of encouragement they feel comfortable expressing their fondness for each other and they felt that they could be happy about making art with each other. The most reluctant children were the once who spent the longest decorating their artwork and that was very rewarding for me and hopefully them too!
