Creating Space
Week two was the theme of Space. This activity was inspired by the children creating their own space. A special place they enjoy spending time, or even an activity they love to do. We used different types of paper and a variety of markers, pipe cleaners and tape to help bring their ideas to life. From there everyone created their own artwork reflecting what space means to them. We also explored the theme through a group activity by creating circles and shapes by holding hands together. We also danced, played music and created our own spaces that way. This helped them understand space in a more physical and collaborative way.
It was great to see the children working together to create their own space. This allowed the children to create movement and work together. This moment mattered because it revealed how the children use their imagination. When the children formed a circle too they were able to see how their interactions could work together to create a space. We also created space by everybody individually choosing an area within the classroom. It was interesting to see their approach and where they went. It revealed everyone’s personality, they all had joy and excitement for this part of the activity and their imagination came through within this activity as well. Children value being creative and having their own individual personality.
