Web of Colour Craft
Over 5 weeks, I had the chance to lead a creative arts program at Bellview YMCA Kinder Connections camp, giving children the space to explore ideas, try new materials and collaborate with one another. The campers really enjoyed Week 3”s craft of web of colour. The campers layered and attached the materials into a crisscrossing network, gradually building a vibrant, see-through web. We brought the web into the sun’s light and we all watched as the sun created a stained-glass effect on the ground.Â
The web of colour craft in week 3 stood out as more than just an engaging art activity. It became a living lesson about change, collaboration and the beauty of the present moment. Watching the campers work together to layer strips of cellophane into an intricate network, we watched as the teamwork and confidence of the children as grown, the started to add things they found on the ground to the web, one of the kids found a feather and stuck it on and other kids were adding leaves. For me, this activity underscored the importance of open-minded exploration, where the process is just valuable as the final outcome.Â
