Mixed Media: Blue Art Titles
The theme for week five of program delivery was relationship, The theme was mixed media with the main focus of colour being blue. They first experimented with a variety of materials, such as pastel, pencil, crayon, and markers. They made individual marks and drawings, and saw how the materials interacted. Step two was to add watercolour paint, they were able to see how the materials responded.
We also created a collaborative artwork, where each child made one mark on a shared piece of paper, building a design together in a circle. By the end, we could see how each mark connected, showing how individual contributions created a collaborative artwork.
This was an exciting project, because children were very curious on how the materials were going to work together. They were eager and excited to use watercolour paper and to try all of the different materials and tools. One child was excited that they could still see their drawing that they created with the pastel well layering the watercolour paint over top. Children were able to engage thoughtfully with all of the materials, and create an amazing relationship with the use of materials. Also, in our second activity children enjoyed creating collaborative artwork. Children were observing how other children were creating their marks, and it revealed different expressions and personalities of an individual child. I could see that through their specific marks they made. I also observed what materials they gravitate towards, and it revealed their creativity as well.
