Creating our Dream Spaces!
Week two: SPACE at Our Lady of Hope got the children very engaged and excited for the weeks ahead. The children were provided with squares of cardboard, paper, drawing utensils, and other materials to create their favourite space in 3D! We had many children create their houses and rooms, their favourite games, and other landscapes that were not only impressive but very creative.Â
One specific child this week created the ocean and a beach and used the given materials in a very clever way. They experimented with pipe cleaner to create movement in the water (waves), used 3D shapes to create structures, and layered coloured paper on their cardboard base!
All of the children’s work this week stood out to me and was extremely impressive to watch. It was amazing to witness the process of these creations and what it took to build and plan them out of simple art materials. Many children took inspiration from real life spaces like their homes or their bedrooms, and it was amazing to see that they did not put pressure on themselves, but instead trusted the process and were creative with open minds. I loved having conversations with this group about what these spaces meant to them and how they could portray their chosen space. To put the works together and create a community was super successful at the end of the project and made me so proud!
