Week 1
Week one of Artasia at Holy Trinity was a huge hit! I started with the same icebreaker I’ve used at all my sites—each child took a turn holding the ball of yarn, and while they held it, they shared their name and two things they love. I also introduced myself, shared two things I love, and showed them two example badges—one with my name spelled out using letters cut from grocery bags, and another displaying the things I love. The kids were immediately engaged, with some choosing to put the things they love on their badges, while many others were excited to spell their names using the grocery bag letters. A lot of them ended up doing both! The enthusiasm was contagious as they eagerly created multiple badges and proudly showed them to their friends.
It was wonderful to see their creativity in full swing and how proud they were to display the things they love on a badge worn close to their hearts. The joy and excitement they brought to the activity made it a truly special start to Artasia at Holy Trinity!
Week 2
Flag Week at Holy Trinity was another fantastic success! The kids eagerly jumped into the activity, using their flags to showcase their favorite sports, colors, loved ones, countries, and more. They had a blast experimenting with paint on fabric, mixing colors to see what new shades and colors they could create.
The impact of the activity was clear, as many of the kids mentioned it the following week, asking, “Are we making flags again? It was so fun!” and excitedly shared, “I still have my flag—I love it so much.” Flag Week was definitely a memorable and cherished experience at Holy Trinity!
Week 3
Flower Pounding Week was a wonderfully vibrant experience, despite the noise! The kids were initially puzzled as they watched the materials being set up, but their confusion quickly turned to delight once the activity was explained. They were more than eager to dive right in, excited to see what colors they could extract from the flowers.
It was amazing to hear their questions about natural materials and to witness their excitement as they realized this was a unique activity they could potentially do at home as well. After pounding the flowers, the kids used fabric markers to draw the things they love on their newly decorated cloths and proudly wrote their names to show off their creations. It was definitely a fantastic week, filled with curiosity, creativity, and a lot of fun!
Week 4
Wearable Fashion Week at this site was another fantastic success! The kids took a creative route that was unlike any of my other sites. While some did make bracelets from pipe cleaners and beads, many others eagerly crafted purses, T-shirts, handcuffs, kitty and bunny ears, headbands, and more.
One girl made a sash, bunny ears, kitty ears, a purse, a cape, a bracelet, and a crown! Engagement was definitely evident for this activity! It was wonderful to introduce new creative materials and watch the kids explore different artistic directions. Their imagination and enthusiasm made this week a standout success!
