Curious questions!
The Westmount early on really surprised me with how creative and curious the young children were! I had help from both the amazing staff on site as well as the help from our focus on youth. it was really inspiring to see the children take our prompts and give them their own little twist to create their own art pieces! On week 3 we had a few options for our activity and for the early on I decided to go with dried flower collages, because the age range was just a little too young for the other options. In the beginning of the activity it was just the staff, the focus on you and I creating, but then I saw a little girl watching us from across the room who seemed interested. I asked her if she wanted to make some art with us and at first she didn’t want to, she just wanted to watch us but as she watched us, she started to ask questions about the materials we had with us. What were they?, why were the flowers dry?, how did we get them to stick to the fabric? and as we answered her questions she seemed more and more interested in creating with us! She ended up making quite a few collages with us! For the even younger children there they played with the supplies enjoying the way they felt in their hands creating a fun sensory experience for them and a way to connect to the art activity even if they weren’t able to create exactly what was planned!Â
Thank you to our Focus on Youth team members Eddie Ivanchuk and Harshvi Patel for supporting us at this site!
