Experiences at Prince of Wales

This picture shows the kids while they’re working on the badges. During the creation process they talked through problems with peers and staff. The kids created wonderful badges with some help from staff. Most of the badges were based off the kids’ favourite characters like this Pikachu one. In this picture the kids are making banners. They had a blast using paint on the fabric and learning how paint looks different depending on the fabric. This is a finished banner that’s about how much the group loves summer camp. They worked together to find a shared message to put on the banner and had fun creating it.

Experiences at Prince of Wales 2

For this activity the kids created wearable fashion. The kids spent time brainstorming how they would create skirts, bracelets, crowns and capes out of the materials in front of them. This is a skirt one of the kids made. They drew a house on the back and used pipe cleaners as a belt. They wore skirts for the rest of the day. This is a recipe for the kid’s perfect breakfast. Two kids worked together and added each of their favourite foods onto the plate.

Experiences at Prince of Wales 3

This activity was badge making. The kids spent time exploring what worked best to decorate the fabric. This badge was put onto a craft the kid was working on earlier in the day. This badge created a discussion about the kids’ favourite dinosaurs. The group creating this banner wanted people who saw the banner to know that difference is ok. They put a lot of thought into what symbols should be used and where they should go.

Experiences at Prince of Wales 4

This kid wanted to make a cape so they could be the heroes they looked up to. This telescope was made as a gift for a younger sibling who loved to observe the world. This is the result of a recipe for the perfect cookie. There’s chocolate, skittles and M&Ms on a chocolate cookie.

Arts For All acknowledges the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. The City of Hamilton has developed an Urban Indigenous Strategy that will strengthen the City’s relationship with the Indigenous community and help promote a better understanding among all residents about Indigenous histories, cultures, experiences and contributions.
