Artasia at Collegiate

This is my third year at the today’s family collegiate location! I have had a different age group each year and each year they were really awesome. The kids at this location are very engaged and excited to create with us every single time. On week 3 the activity was flower pounding, we had a few hiccups with this plan considering that day we were meant to go outside to work but it had been pouring rain, but with help from the staff at the site we collected cardboard and decided to work on the floor. This activity was so much fun at this location, at the start we did have a smaller group of kids but it grew quickly once they saw and understood what we were doing. There were a few children at this site that often didn’t participate in our activities but something about this one brought them out of their shells. I remember one child that had yet to participate in our activities yet had come up to me and shyly asked if he could make a piece too! I gave him the fabric and some flowers and he got straight to it even adding in some marker as well, and as he sat with me and a few of the other kids he started to open up and really join in on the conversation with us.  and although he said he didn’t like art that much he ended up making four pieces and said that he was excited to see what we were going to do next week! it was really amazing to see someone who wasn’t open to art become excited to create, everyone can be an artist you just have to give them the chance.
