Artists in Neighbourhoods is informed by the Reggio Emilia approach and grounded in a deep respect for children as capable, curious, and full of ideas. We see learning as relational and emergent, developing through interactions with materials, educators, artists, and peers.

Guided by “How Does Learning Happen?” Ontario’s pedagogy for the early years, we focus on supporting children’s well-being, belonging, engagement, and expression. These principles shape how we design learning environments, foster inquiry, and create opportunities for children to explore and communicate their thinking in multiple ways.

Artists collaborate with Early Childhood Educators and community partners to cultivate environments where children’s ideas are taken seriously and their diverse ways of expressing themselves are celebrated. Through careful observation, reflection, and documentation, learning becomes visible and continues to grow over time.

Central to our pedagogy is the belief in the hundred languages of children—the many ways they think, learn, and express themselves through movement, drawing, building, storytelling, and play.
