The Listening ProjectArtasia 2016 came to a close at Supercrawl with The Listening Project exhibition. Artasia participants were challenged to question the importance of listening – to our environment, ourselves and each other. Under the City Centre bridge, festival-goers found the centerpiece of The Listening Project – a yellow school bus encased in children’s artwork projecting out the sounds of children’s stories for patrons to listen to and find inspiration in.

Each year, Artasia aims to give children from the greater Hamilton area access to contemporary art. Artasia 2016 invited First Nations teacher, Suzie Miller, and sound artist, Aaron Hutchinson, to help us listen to children’s voices in a traditional but newly envisioned way. The consummation of Artasia children’s recorded listening circles and visual thinking debuted at Supercrawl along with “The Story Quilt” – a collaborative work created by children throughout Artasia’s summer-long program.
